This is a painting done by Andre Derain of the Charing Cross Bridge in England. Andre Derain was a French painter and a leading exponent of Fauvism. Inspired by Paul Cézanne’s work he was inspired to concentrate of landscape paintings. But after World War I his work became more classical and more influenced by the work of artists like Camille Corot. This painting was painted in 1905-06 in England of its cityscape. You can definitely tell that Derain was for Fauvism, “a art movement launched in 1905 whose work was characterized by bright and nonnatural colors and simple forms; influenced the expressionists” . The first thing that I noticed in his painting was the sky. Usually they sky in London would be gray, instead it’s filled with bright, dramatic colours at the top half of the painting. Then you’ve got the cityscape I green and blue. The bottom half of the painting bluey-green water with a yellow strip thought the middle and of course the Charing Cross Bridge. You’ve got a lot of circular motions and the colours are mostly green and blue, apart from the abstracted London sky. I think that the artist wanted people to see things in a different way. This was the era of photography and I think that Derain wanted to move away from just still life and create something out of his feelings and make an impression. You can see this by the bold colours of the sky. I personally really like this painting. I like that he did what he wanted and made the sky the way he did, I think it looks really cool. I love all the different colours in his painting. It makes me want to be in France right now :)

Hi I am suchalani I choose road near L'Estaque by Georges Braque. This is a oil abstract painting. Braque is famous French painter who was inspired by Paul Cézanne, who is one of the famous painter in france. His inspiration led him to paint scenes from L'Estaque which gave him a solid foundation for his later Cubist style paintings. This paiting is very much look a like flat to me. And the colors are lot more cooler. The painter used very often verticle and horizonticle lines to creat geometric style. Darker areas in this picture is the top part and bottom ares is look lighter. For me this painting look more like a cubist style paiting than abstract. Overall it is an amazing and I like it for one reason. That is when I look at this painting i feel very comfortable to see it.
